If you are anything like any other twenty-something-year-old trying to do a major renovation on their house, you are probably looking for any way possible to save money while undertaking a big project.
Here are just a couple of the best deals we have found (and already taken advantage of) while planning out our kitchen renovation. A simple Google search and you can easily find a variety of ways to save money on home improvement projects.
1. MENARDS
Today was the last day of the 14% off bag sale. Anything you can fit in the grocery bag (including sale items) was 14% off. You bet we engineered a way to get the kitchen pendant light we wanted in that bag!
Today also happened to be the first day of their repeat 11% off everything (rebate) promotion. This promotion was running earlier in January, and we were surprised to see it running again. Score! Shopping at Menards today meant we received 14% off anything we were able to fit into the bag, as well as the 11% rebate on all purchases. Do your research ahead of time on when stores will be running these promotions!
2. LOWE'S
Only our favorite home-improvement store, EVER. Lowe's Credit Card (like many retail stores) offers 5% off on everything when you open a credit card with them. Perfect if you are planning to make a huge purchase at once (special financing promotions as well).
Lowe's sends out 10% coupons in the mail when you move. These coupons are easy to find online if you missed out on the coupon when moving (note, the above coupon is expired). Lowe's is also known for promotions on energy-star appliances, which can be doubled with any sale prices.
Did you know you can buy gift cards for less than the actual retail price? Gift Card Granny is a website where you can buy/sell gift cards for discounted prices. Why yes, we will be buying a Lowe's gift card for at least 10% off to use for our large purchases (combining the discounted gift card with the 10% off, of course).

4. RANDOM GIFT CARD PROMOTIONS
When we switched cable companies this past fall, we received a $100 Visa gift card from AT&T U-Verse. These types of free gift cards are great to help a costly project around the house. Other gift card promotions to search for are: health incentive programs through your work, credit card rewards, phone company rewards, etc.
Gift cards, %-off sales, rebates, and sale-prices can easily save you hundreds of dollars. All it takes is getting organized and figuring out when sales are running, and which items you plan to buy at which stores. Happy saving!
