a home for your books

Months ago I came across this image on Pinterest (surprised?).
I knew immediately that this would be the easiest, cheapest, nicest, etc. etc. etc. looking bookshelf that would match perfectly in our bedroom, because I could stain the wood to match our new headboard we made last fall (headboard tutorial here).

So off to Lowes we went again.  Picked up three boards, and made our way to the landscaping section to pick out the stones I wanted.  We ended up going with these in the end, because we knew they would be the most sturdy and durable.  I think total the bookshelf was going to cost us around $25 because we already had the stain/polyurethane/etc. at home.

We sanded and stained the boards, and then assembled as shown below.  Be sure you put felt pads or some type of cloth/fabric under the bottom stones, especially if you are assembling your bookshelf on a hard surface.  The last thing I needed was to scuff the wood floor with 26 lb. landscaping stones and have the husband never let me hear the end of it.

Now all our books have a cozy home, even though I'm sure they've enjoyed sitting in a box for the past 11.5 months.
